Whether you’re facing a diagnosis, caring for someone who is, or working to change how cancer care is delivered—you play an important role in this conversation.
This will be a groundbreaking, heart-centered event created for the Black community to shine a powerful light on gynecologic and breast cancer.
Rooted in culture, community, and care, the AfroSHARE Summit is more than a conference; it’s a space of connection, healing, and truth-telling. This unique gathering will bring together Black cancer patients and survivors, caregivers, advocates, clinicians, researchers, and pharmaceutical leaders in one room to share lived experiences, amplify voices, and drive collective action. Through open dialogue and interactive sessions, we will explore the real barriers our community faces and work together to push past them.
This day is about breaking the silence and honoring the strength of Black women and families navigating cancer. Attendees will gain life-saving knowledge about early warning signs and symptoms, learn how to confidently advocate for themselves and others, and dive into crucial conversations about rebuilding trust in healthcare and advancing equity in meaningful, measurable ways.
We welcome everyone, across backgrounds, ethnicities, and identities, who is committed to listening, learning, and being a part of change. Join us for a day rooted in Empowerment, Community, and Impact.

Join us for a powerful and informative session designed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of gynecologic and breast cancers. We will kick off with a compelling video presentation that sheds light on the early signs and symptoms, often subtle but critical to recognize. You will gain valuable insights into risk factors, the latest in screening and early detection, and hear firsthand from individuals who have experienced a diagnosis and bravely share their journeys. Once the video concludes, we will have remarks from SHARE’s Executive Director and CEO, Heidi Henderson, who will discuss SHARE’s ongoing work and commitment to education, advocacy, and empowering those impacted by gynecologic and breast cancer.
Keynote
Black women continue to face significant disparities across cancer care, from diagnosis to treatment, support, survivorship, and scientific research. Our Keynote will dive into the systemic inequities that exist and set the stage for conversations around advocacy, health literacy, building trust, clinical trials, and creating change. We will gain a deeper understanding of the barriers that Black women face, and, most importantly, identify actionable steps that can be taken across health systems, communities, and research institutions to close these gaps and advance true equity in cancer care.
Real Talk
Too often, Black women’s pain is dismissed, our symptoms overlooked, and our voices ignored. In this unfiltered, deeply personal session, Nefa-Tari Moore and Megan-Claire Chase will share their raw and honest stories about delayed diagnoses, the emotional toll of medical gaslighting, the power of self-advocacy, and why centering Black women’s experiences in gynecologic and breast cancer care is urgent and non-negotiable. This isn’t just about awareness; it’s about survival, truth-telling, and demanding better because silence is not an option.
Panel Discussion
Trust is essential to quality healthcare, but for many Black patients, that trust has been fractured by generations of systemic inequities, structural racism, and implicit bias. This session uses real stories and expert perspectives to unpack these complex realities and offer tangible tools for self-advocacy. From asserting your rights and seeking second opinions to knowing when and how to speak up, this panel will explore ways to build a care team where you feel heard, safe, and respected. The focus will then shift to the healthcare system itself, discussing what providers can do to earn the trust of Black women and eliminate disparities. Together, we’ll explore how to foster care experiences grounded in partnership, respect, and equity.
Coping with gynecologic or breast cancer is exhausting physically, mentally, and emotionally. Caregivers, too, carry a heavy emotional load. In this session, a social worker will guide us through recognizing burnout, setting clear boundaries, and building self-care practices that truly serve you. Learn how to protect your energy, manage stress, and permit yourself to pause without guilt. Because your peace matters, and so does your well-being.
Your family’s health history can provide knowledge and guide potential treatment options. This session breaks down genetic testing and counseling, including what they are, when to consider them, and how they can inform decisions about reducing risks, screening, and treatment. We’ll explore how hereditary cancer mutations like BRCA and Lynch Syndrome affect risk and offer guidance on having meaningful conversations with loved ones about family health history. We’ll also unpack the cultural complexities and emotional weight of talking about cancer in Black families by offering tools to approach these conversations with dignity, awareness, and care for future generations.
Advocacy comes in many forms – there’s no one-size-fits-all path. From policy change, research, storytelling, social media, or supporting mission-driven organizations like SHARE, there’s a way to make a difference that reflects your unique strengths and passions. In this session, you’ll hear from advocates with diverse lived experiences who have each found their voice and passion. Learn how you can show up to advocate for change in ways that feel personal, purposeful, and doable. The advocacy arena is large enough for all of us.
After powerful conversations in our breakout sessions, we’ll come back together to share and reflect as a collective. A spokesperson from each group will present key insights, recurring themes, and bold ideas that surfaced. This is a moment to connect the dots, uplift community voices, and honor the truths and experiences shared in our space.
Panel Discussion
How do we rebuild medical mistrust and ensure Black patients are fully represented in clinical research? This candid conversation brings together patients' voices and medical experts who will break down what clinical trials really involve. Together, we’ll unpack common myths, explore valid concerns, and highlight why representation matters in advancing both research and equity.
Let’s take a moment to reset – together. Step away from your seat, breathe deeply, and reconnect with your body through joyful movement. This brief, uplifting session will help you shake off stress, stretch out tension, and recharge your energy. Because healing isn’t just about rest; it’s about rhythm, too.
